I'll just get straight to the point for this description: Phil is horrible tonight. Even the early numbers like Squonk has him noticeably struggling, and he even does a lot of awkward dodged melodies due to his lack of range (and this continues for many other songs tonight!). I have no idea if Phil just got sick a second time this year, or if it was just the brutal touring schedule getting to him, but either way, this is just one rough performance for him. The back half in particular has vocals that are even worse than the Exeter and Guildford shows for him, which really says a lot. By some miracle though, Phil's voice actually co-operates on Ripples, albeit with still some strain happening. If there's one thing going for this show, it's the instrumentation. Everybody else is playing like their lives depend on it and you could argue this is one of the best Duke shows in that department. Perhaps they were trying to pick up for Phil's failing voice?
